Youth chased, hacked to death in broad daylight in the heart of Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a pick-up van driver was chased by a group of miscreants who hacked him to death with sharp weapons in broad day-light at the busy CRP square on Saturday.
The ghastly street crime has nevertheless reaffirmed the notoriety Odisha’s capital city has earned as a crime capital of late, raising serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation.
As per reports, some miscreants chased a pick-up van driver and hacked him with sharp weapons at CRP square area in Bhubaneswar in the morning hours.
The youth, who sustained critical injuries in the attack, was later rescued and shifted to hospital by the police. However, he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment. Past enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the attack.
Meanwhile, police have reportedly detained some of the accused in connection with the horrific crime.
Speaking on the incident, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das said, “Nothing can be told right now. We are in the initial stage of investigation and need time to confirm and verify. Prima facie, it seems the accused and victim were in the same vehicle.”
Two persons have been detained and the investigation is underway, Das added.
Earlier, in October 2020, a sweet stall owner was brutally hacked to death in Samantarapur area of Bhubaneswar over business rivalry.
The victim was chased on the road before he was brutally assaulted with sharp weapons by a group of miscreants. The entire incident was captured in CCTV cameras installed near the spot.
