Utkal Hospital celebrates International Women’s Day

On the important occasion of International Women’s Day, Utkal Hospital Bhubaneshwar has embarked upon a new journey to support health of adolescent girls and menopausal women through the newly established Adolescent & Menopausal Clinic – ‘Being Her’. Menstruation is a way by which a woman’s body prepares for pregnancy every month.

The transitional phase of growth and development between childhood and adulthood is adolescence. A female gets their first period between the ages of 12 to 14 years, but some females get them earlier or later than that.

If any female doesn’t get a period by the age of 16 years, it is a good idea to visit a doctor.

Most women stop getting their period when they are between 45 to 55 years of age.

This is called menopause. The period may start and stop around the time it did for other women in your family,
like your mother or sisters.

Menopause is a normal part of a woman’s life, just like puberty. It is not a single event but a transitionary phase which can begin in the 40s and last until 50s or even 60s. Some women experience signs and symptoms of menopause long before the cessation of their monthly periods.

If a woman
hasn’t had a period for 12 consecutive months, she is said to have reached menopause. This biological
changeover is a crucial part of the ageing process.
Through this clinic the hospital will be providing healthcare services related to Adolescence Health,
Contraception, Information and Awareness generation on Menstrual Hygeine, Dietician Consult,
Nutrition, Sexual Health, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Vaccination against Cervical Cancer including
tests related to them such as Blood tests, Ultrasound of Abdomen & Pelvis etc.
The Menopause Clinic will provide services related to Radiology examination like Mammography &
Ultrasound Abdomen & pelvis, Gynecological Examination, Routine blood test, PAP smear, Hormone Replacement Therapy counseling, Evaluation for cardiac respiratory system, Osteoporosis prevention
etc.
Since due to cultural inhibitions women in these age groups seldom venture out to take medical help for women related issues, it is hoped that now the people of Odisha will become more aware about their female health related problems through this initiative and take the help of Utkal Being Her Team to maintain good health and safety in their respective lives.
