Bhubaneswar: Following a steep rise in the number of Covid-19 cases, the district administration in Malkangiri on Monday decided to clamp night curfew as a preventive measure to check the spread even as speculations are rife about extension of similar measures to other parts of the State.
As per the latest announcement, the night curfew will remain in force in Malkangiri from 9 PM to 6 AM between March 23 and 31, 2021.
It is worth mentioning that the State recorded 146 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the maximum in the last over 40 days.
Earlier during the day, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena informed that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will take stock of the pandemic situation at a review meeting on Tuesday (tomorrow) to decide the next course of action for containment of the spread.
The SRC’s announcement came within minutes after 45 Covid-19 cases were reported from the premier Xavier Institute of Management (XIM) in the Capital City, hastening the BMC to seal the institute and bar entry/ exit of all inmates including students and other staff.
