Schools reopen for Class 10, 12 students in state

Bhubaneswar: Physical classes for class 10 and 12 students started across Odisha on Monday after a gap of more than three months due to the restrictions enforced to contain spread of Covid-19.

The schools were opened strictly complying to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) issued by the State School and Mass Education Department to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

However, attending physical classes will be the decision of the students and their parents.

Besides, online classes will continue for the rest student (who don’t want to attend offline classes), including for class X and XII.

The classes will be held from 10 am to 1.30 pm, as per the SOP.

Prior to the resumption of the classes in the schools, all work areas including classrooms, furniture, libraries, laboratories and storage places of common use were sanitised by the authorities.

A separate isolation room has been marked in all the schools and kept ready. The room will be used in case any student or staff develops Covid symptoms.

Adequate soap (solid/liquid) and running water have been made available in all washrooms and toilets of the schools. Hand sanitizers have been mandatorily kept for teachers, students and staff in each classroom.

Special seating arrangements have been done so that student can maintain social distancing while attending classes.

Inside the classrooms, students will be made to sit at safe distances/alternate desks and fixed seating will be ensured.

A particular seat/space will be earmarked for each student (for example: based on roll number) so that there is limited exposure to other students’ physical spaces.

All the teachers, students and staff will be give entry to the school after thermal screening. Students have been advised not to bring food with them.

In case, any student or staff develops Covid 19 symptoms, the person will be separated from the rest of the people and shifted in the isolation room in an isolated place inside school premises.

Later, the school management should inform the parent or guardian about the health condition of the ill student and immediately inform the nearest medical facility or call the State or district helpline.

Meanwhile, a detailed SOP has also been issued for hostel operations and nodal officers have been sent to each districts to ensure that the Covid-19 protocols are being followed in the hostels, the School and Mass Education Minister Samir Das has informed earlier.
