Nayagarh: A sarpanch was allegedly hacked to death in Dholamara panchayat of Nayagarh district late Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sushant Behera. According to reports, he was attacked with sharp weapon and murdered while he was returning to his residence from panchayat office.
He initially sustained critical injuries in the murderous attack and was rushed to the Gania Community Health Centre. He was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Khandapada police have started investigation into the matter. Though the reason behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the incident was due to past enmity.
