Sambit Patra seeks SC’s permission for Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: BJP’s National Spokesperson Sambit Patra on Sunday filed a petition seeking Supreme Court’s permission for conduct of Ratha Jatra in Puri as the apex court has disallowed the festival for this year.
It may be noted here that Patra had contested for Lok Sabha from Puri constituency and had lost the election.
“Today I filled an Application for clarification/modification of earlier order of SC and sought permission for the Holy Rath Yatra of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu in Puri scheduled for 23rd June,” Patra tweeted.
On the other hand, multiple petitions filed earlier in the Supreme Court seeking partial modification in the apex court’s previous order of disallowing Ratha Jatra in Puri was today listed for hearing on June 22 at 11 am.
The hearing by Justice S. Ravindra Bhat is scheduled to take place through videoconferencing at Virtual Court No. 3.
The Supreme Court’s ruling came on a plea by an NGO seeking direction to stay the holding of the festival. The plea filed by NGO Odisha Vikas Parishad claimed that presently the entire nation including Odisha is facing an unprecedented situation due to Covid-19, where the lives of the common people are at a huge risk.
