Rogue jumbo tramples man to death in Angul

Angul: A rogue elephant reportedly trampled a man to death in Talagada village under Bantala forest range in Angul district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Dushmanta Behera (31) of Talagada village. According to sources, Dushmanta had gone to the forest taking his goats to graze. But, Dushmanta was attacked by an elephant in the forest and died on the spot.
Later, villagers spotted the body of Dushmanta in the forest. Irked over the incident, some locals raided the Bantala forest division office and attacked the forest officials.
Police reached the spot after being informed. But, they were not even spared from the wrath of the villagers and three police personnel were injured in the scuffle.
Though elephant attacks claimed many lives in the past, forest officials have failed to take any concrete measures to stop recurrence of such incidents, a local said.
