Bhubaneswar: Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm is likely to occur in the north coastal areas of the State for one more day, said Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, on Saturday.
Unseasonal rains that lashed parts of northern and western Odisha in the last 24 hours has brought temporary respite from the scourge of fires in several jungles in the region.
Meanwhile, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Deogarh have been receiving light to moderate rainfall.
Bamra in Sambalpur district received the maximum 32.8 mm in the last 24 hours followed by Baragaon (32.2 mm), Gurundia (30 mm), Tangapali (28.4 mm), Banaigarh (23.0 mm), Mandiradam (22.4) and Balishankara (20.4 mm) in Sundargarh district, as per the Meteorological Centre.
Similarly, Birmaharajpur in Sonepur received 25.5 mm rainfall, followed by Jharsuguda (24.8 mm), Deogarh (23.0 mm) and Barkot in Deogarh (22 mm), respectively.
Titlagarh and Malkangiri remained the hottest places in the State in the last 24 hours with 38 degree Celsius followed by Bhawanipatna 37.8 degree C, Sundargarh and Boudh each recorded 37.5 C each, Bolangir 37.4 degree C and Talcher 37.3 degree C, respectively. The mercury rose to 35 degree C in Bhubaneswar while Cuttack recorded a maximum of 34.6 degree C, informed the Met Centre.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that rain and thunderstorm activity will continue in several parts of Odisha for the next 24 hours.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack and Kendrapara district today.
Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning was also issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore district on Saturday.
Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of north coastal Odisha, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri and Ganjam tomorrow.
Yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul and Dhenkanal districts on March 14.
“Both maximum temperature (day temperature) and minimum temperature (night temperature) are likely to fall slightly by around 2 degrees at many places over the districts of Odisha during next 24 hours and it will again rise thereafter by 2-3 degrees,” said the Met office.
