Post-mortem report says ACF Soumya Ranjan died of 95 % burn injuries

Cuttack: The post mortem report of deceased Paralekhimundi Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, which was released on Monday, has stated that the young Odisha Forest Service (OFS) officer had died of burn injuries.

The post-mortem report stated that the ‘death is due to burn injuries sustained involving about 95% body surface area.’

The findings in the report assume significance in view of the controversies surrounding the ACF’s death mystery which gathered steam following allegations of murder made by his family members who accused his wife Bidya Bharati and some others to be the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the post mortem report stated that ‘the burn injuries described on the body are ante mortem in nature and could have been due to application of dry heat in the form of fire and flame’.

It further stated that the ACF’s stomach was ‘empty without emitting any suspicious odour’. Body cavities and all other organs were intact and congested, the report said.

The time of death has been mentioned as six hours before the autopsy.

The post-mortem report was handed over to the father and brother of the deceased at Markat Nagar police station in Cuttack on Monday.

The family had been alleging foul play in the death of Soumya Ranjan. On the basis of an online complaint by the family members, a murder case was earlier filed against three persons including the deceased’s wife Bidyabharati Panda. The two others named in the FIR were Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sangram Behera and the ACF’s cook.

Last week, the SP of Gajapati district, Tapan Patnaik gave clean chit to the DFO in the case stating he had no role to play in the death of the ACF.
