Police still clueless about the headless woman found in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Even as the Commissionerate Police is yet to make any headway in headless woman case in Bhubaneswar, the deceased was reportedly linked to a village in Bari area of Jajpur district.

The State was in shock when a woman with head missing was found on roadside in Bhubaneswar on February 4. People have been dismayed with the brutality of the crime as the semi naked body of the woman was spotted on the side of the road connecting Andharua and Daspur in Chandaka area.

The Commissionerate Police, dog squad and scientific team reached the spot and collected evidence after being informed. As the body’s head was missing, it has been an uphill task for the police to establish identity of the woman. The police also released posters of the woman’s body and clothes in Odia and Hindi languages and announced Rs 50,000 for information on her.

Meanwhile, some sections of media linked the headless woman to Bauxipatna village under Bari block. Quoting some villages they claimed the woman with missing head found in Bhubaneswar was staying on rent along with her husband in Bauxipatna village.

A villager said he heard a woman’s scream for help in the intervening night of February 2 and 3. When he came out of his house, he found some people taking the woman in a four-wheeler. Since then the woman was missing in the village. The villager further stated from the posters released by the police he found similarities in the night gown worn by the woman with the headless woman’s cloth.

Later the local police investigated the matter and found that the woman on whom Bauxipatna villagers were talking and the media reported was from Jharkhand.

Bari IIC Ajay Kumar Jena clarified there is no link between the headless woman and the woman who was missing in Bari. The police traced the woman and handed her over to her family members in Jharkhand.

“The woman who was missing in Bari is 20 years old whereas the headless woman was in between 30 and 35 years old. Also, the woman with missing head is believed to have undergone C-section to deliver a baby. Some media falsely linked both the matters,” Jena added.

Worth mentioning, an official from the Commissionerate Police’s Special Branch, Sitikantha Kanungo is investigating the headless woman case in Bhubaneswar.
