POCSO court awards 20 years RI to man for raping daughter in Sundargarh

Rourkela: A POCSO court in Sundargarh district awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment to a person found guilty of raping his daughter.

Hearing a case on Friday, the Additional District Judge of POCSO Court, Sundargarh, Partha Sarathy Patnaik sentenced Raj Kumar Lohar to rigorous imprisonment of 20 years for the crime.

The court also imposed fine amount of Rs 5,000 on the convict failing to which he will be sentenced to another year in prison.

Based on statements of rape victim and 11 witnesses and police probe report, the judge pronounced the quantum of punishment for the convict.

Besides, the court ordered to provide compensation amounting to Rs 7 lakh to the victim.

According to reports, the 31-year-old Lohar had raped his 7-year-old daughter for three consecutive months.

On March 6, 2013, when he attempted to rape her again, her mother who was with the victim at home, opposed him. Expressing outrage, he started assaulting his mother for hindrance and attempted to attack her with a sword.

With no fear, the brave grandmother of the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint with the Raghunathpalli Police against her son on the same day.

Based on the allegation, the police arrested the accused the person and booked him under sections 376(2)(f)/323/341/506 of IPC and section 6 of POCSO Act.
