Rourkela: The Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in the Steel City will soon start Convalescent Plasma Therapy for the treatment of serious Coronavirus-infected patients in western Odisha districts.
Chairing a meeting of Council of Ministers on Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced setting up a plasma bank at the IGH, Rourkela so that plasma treatment can be rolled out at the hospital soon.
The CM also expressed his satisfaction with the positive result of plasma therapy in the State and announced to enhance the number of beds in the Covid Care Centres in Rourkela from 700 to 1700.
Naveen also sanctioned Rs 5 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the management of Covid-19 in Sundergarh district.
Besides, emphasis will be given on door-to-door survey, testing, and containment zones. Special attention will be given to slum areas and congested localities, said the CM.
It is worth mentioning here that while SCB Medical College and Hospital is the nodal agency for plasma therapy in the State, SUM Hospital and KIIMS hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Aswini Hospital in Cuttack have started providing plasma treatment. Besides, the therapy has also been initiated at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Ganjam district.
As many as 857 Covid-19 cases have been detected in Sundergarh district till date which includes 125 active cases, 727 recoveries, and two deaths.
