Voting for the constituency will be held on September 30.

Holding a review of the poll preparedness with other stakeholders, the top cop stressed on the conduct of a free, fair, transparent, impartial and incident-free by-election.

He further emphasised on intensifying preventive measures including the rounding up of potential trouble makers under Sections 110/107 of CrPC, seizure of illegal arms, illicit liquor and execution of non-bailable warrants (NBWs).

ADGP (Law and Order) RK Sharma reviewed the overall deployment plan. He laid focus on enhancing the work of mobile squads and flying squads, and thorough checking by setting up Nakas around the constituency.

Director (Intelligence) Lalit Das shared the intelligence connected with the bye-election and urged the IG and SP to closely monitor the law and order situation.

Other issues like security of VIPs/VVIPs visiting for campaigning purpose, action on election related cases, mapping of critical and vulnerable booths and preparing security plan accordingly were also discussed during the meeting.

It is worth mentioning that the long-overdue bypoll, which was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Pradeep Maharathy in October last year, will be held on September 30 while the counting of votes will take place on October 3.

The high-voltage campaign for the bypoll has commenced today. A total of 10 candidates are in the fray for the bypoll which was earlier postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the death of Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj.
