Odisha govt decides to abide by SC order on Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday said it will abide by the order given by the Supreme Court on Rath Yatra this year. The decision was taken at the State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Lok Seva Bhawan today evening.
It was decided in the Cabinet meeting to inform the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee to perform rituals on the premises of Srimandir as per the apex court’s directive.
The District Magistrates were asked to ensure the temple managing committees and institutions in the districts adhere to the SC order.
Prior to the start of the State Cabinet meeting, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the 20 soldiers martyred in the Ladakh clash.
Among others, the Chief Secretary, Law Minister, Development Commissioner, Advocate General, and SJTA Chief administrator were present in the meeting.
Earlier in the day, the apex court ordered there will be no Ratha Yatra anywhere in Puri of Odisha or in any other part of the state this year.
The SC further directed that there shall be no activities secular or religious associated with the Rath Yatra which was scheduled to be held from June 23.
