Odisha Congress working president targets Sonia Gandhi over Rajasthan crisis
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) working president and former MP, Pradeep Majhi on Wednesday courted controversy by blaming AICC chief Sonia Gandhi for the political crisis in Rajasthan.
The former Congress MP said that the one who is leading the party is to be blamed for the present situation of Congress as the responsibility to run the party lies with the president.
Majhi further said, “If the Congress party is affected due to the crisis, the blame will be on the party chief (Sonia Gandhi)… A senapati (chief warrior) in a battle is responsible for defeat.”
However, the comments of Majhi have not gone down well with the senior State Congress leaders who termed such ‘spewing of venom’ against the party chief as unacceptable.
“I don’t know what made him utter such words. I will speak to him on this matter. Whatever he is, it is only because of Congress and he will have to pay for any anti-party comments or activities,” said senior Congress leader and MLA, Sura Routray.
Party MLA Tara Bahinipati termed Majhi’s statements as unwarranted and said such a statements from Majhi are unfortunate. “All are free to stay or leave the party but those who will speak against the party will never be forgiven,” he said.
On the other hand, the rebellion by Sachin Pilot is being seen as a trend of growing hostility between the ‘old guard & the young brigade’ within the party.
This has also led many senior Congress leaders calling for introspection while some others blame the young brigade for getting impatient.
Meanwhile, Pilot is yet to announce his future course of action but he has ruled out any chance of him joining the BJP like his friend and former Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, who played a key role in toppling the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh.
