Odisha Cabinet okays excise service cadre restructuring, creation of new excise districts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government can recruit Deputy Superintendent of Excise directly as the State Cabinet on Saturday approved some proposals in the Excise Department including restructuring of excise service cadre.

The Cabinet also approved creation of additional 304 regular posts increasing the cadre strength from 1906 to 2210 relating to the posts at the level of Additional Commissioner of Excise, Joint Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Excise, Deputy Superintendent of Excise, Inspector, Sub-Inspector of Excise, Assistant Sub-Inspector and Constable.

The proposal for creation of two new excise districts at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela has also got the Cabinet nod. These two districts will be bifurcated from Khurda and Sundargarh Districts due to its large area and location at inter-state Jharkhand border respectively.

The Cabinet also okayed a proposal to create five new excise stations- Tihidi (Bhadrak), Baliapal (Balasore), Bhuban (Dhenkanal), Begunia (Khurdha) and Panposh (Sundergarh).

Besides, Government’s proposal to allow the office of Excise Commissioner to function as an Excise Directorate on being carved out from existing Board of Revenue also got a go-ahead from the Cabinet.
