No vaccination, no business: Sundargarh municipality to shopkeepers

Sundergarh: With Odisha government announcing partial relaxations to businesses to resume operations from 6 am to 5 pm daily except the weekends in as many as 17 districts, the Sundargarh Municipality authorities on Wednesday made a major declaration to motivate more and more people to take part in the vaccination drive to defeat Covid.

Sundargarh Sub Collector Abhimanyu Behera informed the mediapersons that as per the order issued by Sundargarh Collector – cum – Administrator of Sundargarh Municipality, that owners of businesses and shops of the town who have not taken vaccines may not be allowed to open their establishments now.

Shopkeepers will be made aware that those who have not received jabs and also not ensured vaccination to the sales executive working under them will not be allowed to open their businesses, Behera said.

“The first norm of the Covid management protocol is that it is executed for the welfare of the public, so people need to be aware and cooperate with the authorities be it for enforcement of guidelines or vaccination. The initiative is aimed at motivating people to align with the norms of the government especially some sections of people who are hesitant to the inoculation drive,” he said.

A few days ago, in one such step to shake off tire reluctance among the general masses to take the vaccine and create greater awareness about the importance of vaccination, some shopkeepers in Hinjili area of Ganjam district were seen offering a discount of at least five percent to fully vaccinated people upon purchase of grocery items.
