Cuttack: There will be no Ganesh Puja celebrations in Cuttack due to COVID-19 pandemic this year. Though necessary guidelines were issued last month, Commissionerate Police has clarified that the celebrations won’t be allowed in public places including the mandaps which have a permanent structure in the city.
Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh informed that earlier there was some confusion regarding the conduct of Ganesh Puja in such places. Clearing the air, Singh clarified that the conduct of rituals is allowed only at an individual or private places (residential places).
Notifying the guidelines formulated on the basis of a resolution during a high-level meeting of Shanti Committee held on July 19, Singh said that all the puja committees and clubs have agreed not to conduct any ceremony at public places.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Centre and the Odisha government have issued clear instructions and guidelines which prohibit any kind of social gatherings in view of COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, there is strict provision for action against persons violating such norms.
Guidelines For Ganesh Puja
-No idol can be installed in clubs, mandaps educational institutions and public places
-All rituals can be followed in private and only in residential areas/house
-No procession allowed (immersion ceremony)
Cuttack DCP informed that even though no decision has been taken yet on Durga puja, lifting of soil from river embankment is allowed but without any huge gathering- only four persons are allowed for the purpose.
“We have allowed four persons for the observance of the tradition of soil lifting. However, such tradition can be followed on normal days and it will not be allowed during the weekend shutdown,” said Singh adding that another meeting will be organised to take appropriate decision on Durga puja keeping in view the COVID-19 situation.
