Nila Madhav Panda’s film ‘Kalira Atita’ in the Oscar race

Nila Madhav Panda’s first Odia film ‘Kalira Atita’ has made its entry into the prestigious Academy Awards race in the general category for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director among the other categories.
The selection of the National Award-winning director’s movie into the Oscars race not only is a landmark moment for Odia cinema but also symbolizes the need for content that moves the audience and leaves them thinking.
Sharing this big moment and expressing his happiness, director Nila Madhav Panda wrote on Twitter, “In a year full of challenges, feel extremely happy to announce #KaliraAtita has made its entry into the Oscar race in general entry category 4 Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director & many other categories. It’s being made available for academy screening, Grateful to everyone”
The film, starring Pitobash Tripathy in lead, showcases the impact of climate change and how it impacts a man who lost his family and home to the sea. The film emphasizes the harsh reality of climate change and rising sea levels, taking villages of India’s eastern coastline into context. Panda is known for highlighting environmental and societal concerns through his movies.
Earlier, the movie had been selected at the Indian Panorama Section at the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
