Bhubaneswar: Close to 2 lakh registered health care workers (HCWs) and Frontline Workers (FLWs) in Odisha have not taken vaccine shots against Covid-19.

A letter issued by the State Health Department to district collectors, commissioners of municipal corporations, Chief district medical and public health officers revealed on Saturday.

As per the document, a total of 1,97217 registered health care and frontline workers have not taken vaccines so far. It includes 1,36,170 health care workers and 61,047 frontline workers.

Interestingly, HCWs and FLWs who have been honoured with the status of Covid warriors for leading the fight against the pandemic were the first priority group in the vaccination drive.

The health department shared a district-wise list of HCWs and FLWs who have registered in the government’s CoWIN app but have not taken the jabs yet.

As per the list, the highest numbers of 17,407 health care and frontline workers have not taken the jabs in Bhubaneswar followed by Sundergarh (14856), Ganjam (13,613), Bhadrak (11,892) and Khordha (11,858).

Three other districts which have more than 10,000 such unvaccinated health and frontline workers are Mayurbhanj (10,519), Cuttack (10,347) and Balasore (10,316).

The additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Mohapatra has directed the district administration and municipal authorities to vaccinate all HCWs and FLWs, who were registered but not vaccinated, within June 20.
