Naveen Patnaik promotes tourism and sports in Odisha during his visit to Japan

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik organized a roundtable discussion in Kyoto city to explore collaboration opportunities between Japan and Odisha in tourism and sports sectors. Representatives from major tour operators, hospitality sector, and various Japanese sports associations attended the event.

During the discussion, the Chief Minister emphasized Odisha’s potential as a tourist destination and its rich Buddhist tradition, including heritage sites in Dhauli, Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri, and Udayagiri. He also highlighted the state government’s initiatives to promote tourism and the significant progress made in the sports sector, especially in hockey.

Patnaik informed the audience about Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, the world’s largest hockey stadium in terms of seating capacity, built in just 15 months. He also spoke about the state government’s focus on improving sports at the grassroots level and urged stakeholders to explore collaborative opportunities.

At the event, the Government of Odisha and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel signed an MoU for the development of a state-of-the-art Gymnastics Centre in Odisha and to promote sports in the state. Representatives from the tourism and hospitality sector expressed their interest in exploring collaboration possibilities with Odisha.

The roundtable discussion provided an opportunity for both Japanese and Odisha delegations to explore avenues of collaboration in tourism and sports. The Chief Minister appreciated the warm hospitality extended by the people of Kyoto and conveyed his hope for further strengthening the relationship between Japan and Odisha.
