Mortal remains of iconic thespian Bijay Mohanty consigned to flames

Bhubaneswar: Ollywood fraternity and people across the aisle paid tearful homage to veteran Odia actor Bijay Mohanty at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalay in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Thereafter Mohanty’s mortal remains were taken to Satyanagar crematorium where he was laid to rest.
Bijay Mohanty passed away at the age of 70 on Monday evening in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was in a bedridden condition and was undergoing treatment at Hyderabad after a cardiac arrest in May 2020. Mohanty was also suffering from diabetes-related disorders and had undergone surgery.
The illustrious actor is survived by his wife Tandra Ray and daughter Jasmine.
Tuesday morning his mortal remains were first brought to his residence in Bomikhal, where all his kin and neighbours paid tribute to the departed soul.
Body of the versatile actor was taken to the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalay for public ‘darshan’. He was accorded full state honours for his lifelong contribution to Odia arts.
Despite a clamped lockdown in the capital, fans, well-wishers and noted personalities from all walks of life reached the institute to have a last glimpse of the actor who had shaped Odia film industry with his timeless acting.
