Bhubaneswar: More than 150 migrants reportedly fled from two quarantine centres in Ganjam district on Sunday.
It may be noted here that the Odisha government had promised for making arrangements for their smooth return to the Odisha to providing free food and hygiene kits, Odisha government has taken several measures for the safe stay of the Odia migrants at the quarantine centres set up across the State.
The migrants reportedly fled from quarantine centres at Janata High School in Beguniapada and Adarsha Vidyalaya at Ragapur in Ganjam districts.
Alleging lack of basic facilities, they broke the gates and run away from the quarantine centres. They had returned from Surat on Saturday.
The local administrations said to have rescued at least 50 of them while police have begun search operation to trace others. However, when tried to contact the Ganjam District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange his cell phone was switched off for a long time.
The fleeing of the migrant workers from the quarantine centres is big threat as it may spike the number of COVID-19 cases very fast in the district.
