MLA Badri Patra’s son accused of coercing woman to withdraw case, audio goes viral

Keonjhar: Debasis Patra, son of Ghasipura MLA Badri Narayan Patra, has been accused of forcing a woman to withdraw a police complaint. A video, purportedly showing the entire incident, has reportedly gone viral.

The ruling-BJD MLA’s son allegedly coerced and threatened the woman to withdraw a police complaint which she has filed against a person who had allegedly misbehaving with her.

“He (Debasis) told me to withdraw the case so as to save the person who had misbehaved with me. He was putting pressure on me for mutual settlement of the case,” alleged the complainant.

However, Debasis Patra said that he never threatened the woman. “I didn’t threaten her. In the entire audio, no one can find me threatening her. Besides, I never told her to go for compromise in the case,” said Patra.

He further said that some are in the habit of throwing mud at those dedicatedly working for the wellbeing of the people and the society. “Some people are always out there against you when you work for the people. But I have not done anything for which one could blame me,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ramachandrapur Police Station IIC Bandana Patra said, “A 24-year-old woman (the complainant) was in a relationship with a man for the last three years. However, she was not aware that he was already married and having two children. Later, some differences occurred between them and she filed a complaint based on which the accused was forwarded to a court,” she said.

“While recording her statement, she said that the MLA’s son Debasis Patra visited her home and pressurised her to compromise the case,” she added.
