Jajpur man sentenced to 10-year jail for raping minor girl
Jajpur: A court on Thursday awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to a man after convicting him of raping a minor girl six years back. Jajpur District and Sessions Judge Gyanendra Barik pronounced his verdict and sentenced the accused Amaresh Panda from Jayasinguda area in Jajpur district to 10-year rigorous imprisonment under Section 376 (2) and Section 511.
The court verdict was passed on basis of 15 witnesses examined during the trial.
The rape survivor, who was a 13-year-old girl then in 2015, had gone to neighbour’s house to watch TV in the evening. After a power cut, the minor girl was returning home. But Panda took the girl to the under-construction second floor of the building and raped her.
When the minor girl returned home, she narrated her ordeal before family members. On basis of a complaint filed by the rape survivor’s mother at Dharmasala police station, Panda was arrested and forwarded to the court.
A fine of Rs 20,000 was also imposed on Panda.
