Jajpur district declared as ‘Red Zone’ by Centre

 The Centre has classified Jajpur district as ‘Red Zone’ on Friday with the number of COVID-19 cases increasing day by day. The total confirmed cases in the district spiked to 39, including 38 active cases.

Following the new cases, the count in the entire state reached 148, the Health and Family Welfare Department informed.

The three new patients are a 55-year-old male of Birajapur, a 75-year-old female of Katikata area and 30-year-old male of Beherapatana (all are in Containment Zone). While the two male patients have travel history to Kolkata, the woman is a contact of a Kolkata returnee. Contact tracing and follow-up action of new patients is underway by the district administration. All the cases of Jajpur on Friday were asymptomatic, the department informed.

On Thursday, the state reported a steep spike with 17 new COVID-19 cases. Out of the 17 patients, 14 were reported from Katikata area of Jajpur district.

The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 106. While 41 patients have so far recovered, one died due to corona virus. Khurda has highest 47 number of positive cases followed by Jajpur and Balasore with 39 and 20 cases, respectively.
