IDSP head, doctor and nurse among fresh COVID-19 cases in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: The frontline COVID warriors continued to be at risk of contracting the deadly infections as three more health workers including a head of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) at a state-run medical college have tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha.
Along with IDSP head, one doctor and one staff nurse have been infected with novel coronavirus. The three cases have been reported from Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College & Hospital in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, a source said.
This apart, one data entry operator of the government medical college has been tested positive for COVID-19.
They are among 13 fresh cases reported in Mayurbhanj district in last 24 hours today.
With 13 more cases in Mayurbhanj, total count reached 121 with 94 active cases in the district. While 27 patients have recovered from the disease, no fatality has been registered in the district so far.
Yesterday, 9 cases had been reported from Mayurbhanj district. Among them, a 6-year-old baby returned from Surat was found COVID positive and remaining were male persons between the age group of 20 and 38 with travel record to various states.
The baby is currently undergoing treatment at the KIIMS COVID Hospital in Bhubaneswar, informed the district administration.
Along with the baby, total number of women infected with the deadly virus has increased to 12 in Mayurbhanj district.
Earlier on June 6, a 25-year-old woman of Badasahi Block had tested positive for COVID-19. While she was undergoing treatment at Dukura CHC, two doctors, one pharmacist, one technician, one staff nurse and three more health workers including an ANM worker, angwanwadi worker and ASHA worker had come in contact with the COVID patient.
Taking immediate step to control further spread of infection, authorities collected swab from the doctors and health workers, who attended to the woman COVID patient, for test. They have been asked to remain in home quarantine till their test reports come up.
Meanwhile, two doctors at PRM Medical College & Hospital and 11 health workers, who had come in contact with another coronavirus infected woman patient, have tested negative for the deadly virus.
