Hooligans attack OVP Chief’s house in Bhubaneswar, police a mute spectator

Bhubaneswar: A group of hooligans on Monday allegedly hurled eggs and pelted stones at the residence of Odisha Vikash Parishad (OVP) chief Sushant Padhi, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the Rath Yatra in Puri.
The eggs and stones were hurled at his residence located at Sai Vihar in Bomikhal area of Bhubaneswar. Stones were also pelted at his car parked on the premises of the house, as a result of which the windshield of the vehicle was damaged.
The incident took place despite police deployment at the spot for Padhi’s security. A scuffle ensued between the cops and the stone pelters. However, the police at the spot did not take any preventive measure to stop them or arrest the hooligans.
It may be mentioned here that hearing the petition on June 18, the apex court had disallowed the annual festival. The plea filed by NGO Odisha Vikas Parishad claimed that presently the entire nation including Odisha is facing an unprecedented situation due to Covid-19 pandemic, where the lives of the common people are at a huge risk, for which such gatherings shouldn’t take place.
