Bhubaneswar: With the Odisha government announcing that there will be home delivery of liquor, people of the state capital were left high and dry. Many people in Bhubaneswar could not procure liquor through home delivery system, alleged a customer.
On condition of anonymity a resident of Shahid Nagar said all the government announcement is a hoax. “I have been trying swiggy and zomato apps the whole day to order for a bottle of liquor. It did not work,” he said. This is just a farce for home delivery.
Odisha government has allowed home delivery of liquor by the existing On and Off shop licensees of IMFL and beer situated in areas other than the containment zones and shopping malls with effect from May 24.
Zomato and Swiggy were permitted to make home delivery of liquor. While Zomato was to operate in Municipal Corporations of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur as well as Puri Municipality, Swiggy would participate in home delivery of liquor in Municipal Corporations of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur and Rourkela.
Normal timing for home delivery would be between 7 AM and 6 PM. Orders were supposed to be expected to be delivered within six hours. However, no such things happened.
People allege that they had to again buy liquor from bootleggers for their regular quota.
When Contacted the Excise Commissioner, Anjan Kumar Manik said there was some issue with the retail liquor association of Bhubaneswar and it has been sorted out. He informed that in many areas home delivery of liquor has been done in Bhubaneswar.
Manik said all places including Bhubaneswar, Puri, Nayagrah, Bhawanipatna, Rourkela etc, home delivery of liquor has started.
