Heavy rainfall alert: IMD issues yellow warning for several districts in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With another low pressure brewing over the Bay of Bengal, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued heavy rainfall alert for Odisha for the next 24 hours.
As per the latest weather bulletin, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in several districts including Southern Odisha in the next 24 hours. Yellow warning has been issued for tomorrow for the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Sundergarh.
HR Biswas, the Director of Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar informed that monsoon trough line is active in several parts of Odisha.
“Several districts in the State will experience heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Thunderstorm and lightning activity is likely to prevail in Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Cuttack, Khurda, Keonjhar, Kendrapara and Mayurbhanj districts,” said Biswas.
According to Biswas, a low pressure area is likely to develop over north Bay of Bengal, adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 9 and 10.
“Under the influence of the low pressure, several parts of Odisha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 9 and 10,” said Biswas.
On August 9, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, and Ganjam districts. Heavy rainfall alert has also been issued for the districts of Nuapada, Rayagada, Gajapati, Puri, Bolangir and Sonepur.
On August 10, districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam and Bolangir will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. Similarly, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Angul districts will experience heavy rainfall on August 10.
