Bhubaneswar: There will be no respite from scorching summer as the heat wave conditions will prevail in Odisha for the next three to four days.
Due to prevailing dry northwesterly winds over plains of northwest India and central as well as the north-south trough in lower tropospheric levels from east to south Peninsular India, heatwave conditions very likely to continue in several parts of the state with peak intensity on May 25 and 26, said Rajendra Kumar Jenamani, head of Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre.
The heat wave conditions in isolated pockets over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra (central), Marathawada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalseema and north interior Karnataka during next 3-4 days, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD).
However, the heat wave conditions are likely to reduce substantially over the plains of north India from May 29 under the influence of a western disturbance and formation of the east-west trough in lower levels.
The northern parts of India will receive rainfall along with thunderstorms due to the easterly winds from May 29 following which temperature may drop to 40 degrees Celsius, Jenamani said.
Due to strong southerly wind from the Bay of Bengal to northeast India at lower tropospheric levels, heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls likely at isolated places over parts of northeastern states and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over adjoining parts of the eastern region of the country till May 28.
