Ganjam reports 50 fresh COVID-19 cases; district’s tally at 1138

Berhampur: Ganjam district, which has the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state, has reported 50 new cases in the last 24 hours, informed the district administration on Friday.
Of the 50 cases, 13 are Corona Warriors from different fields. Of them, eight belong to Aska area, three from Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) area and one each from Kodala and Kabisuryanagar.
Besides, 33 cases are local contacts (2 from Aska, 3 from BeMC area, 15 from Kabisuryanagar, 2 from Khallikote, 4 from Kodala, 2 each from Purusottampur and Sanakhemundi and 1 each from Kukudakhandi and Chhatrapur).
Remaining four cases have travel history of other states (Surat-1, Mumbai-2 and Pune-1 )
With the new cases, the district’s total tally rose to 1138, including 312 active cases. However, 768 patients have so far recovered while eight succumbed to the virus.
In view of the big spike in positive cases in the district, Collector Vijay Kulange on Thursday announced 4-day complete shutdown in BeMC area starting June 27.
