First patient treated with Plasma Therapy in Odisha cured of COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: On a day when Odisha witnessed the biggest surge in COVID-19 cases, the State government also claimed success in Convalescent plasma therapy.
Health and Family Welfare Department on Friday informed that a 48-year-old female COVID-19 patient of Cuttack who was the first patient from Odisha treated with plasma therapy has recovered. The patient reportedly underwent the plasma therapy at Ashwini COVID Hospital.
As per official sources, 13 patients in Odisha have received plasma therapy and most of them are responding well to the treatment.
Senior health officials too are hopeful of a change in State’s COVID scenario with introduction of Plasma therapy, citing it as a game changer as it has so far yielded positive results in the treatment of critical patients.
Last week, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated a plasma bank at SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, which will act as the nodal centre in the State.
At present, plasma therapy is available at SUM Hospital and KIIMS hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Aswini Hospital in Cuttack.
The State government is trying its best to improve the healthcare facilities particularly for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. As per plans, plasma banks will be setup at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
