Faulty kits rendered 25 students of VSSUT test Covid-19 positive, says P K Mohapatra

Sambalpur: Days after reports hit the headlines that 25 students of VSSUT at Burla tested Covid-19 positive, additional chief secretary (Health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra on Tuesday said that the positive reports came due to faulty coronavirus testing kits.

He informed that no students of the varsity are positive because faulty kits were used for the COVID-19 test.

“Students, who are symptoms-free have been kept in one hostel. Apart from the one student who was earlier hospitalised, no student has any COVID-19 symptoms,” said Public Health Director, Niranjan Mishra.

On containment zone issue, Mishra said, “The local administration will take a call on lifting of the restrictions in and around the varsity.”

The COVID-19 outbreak news in VSSUT had triggered an alarm thereby forcing the district Sub-Collector and other administrative officials to review the situation at the VSSUT hostels and later on announcing hostels as containment zones.

The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation had also declared shutdown in the university campus and its adjacent areas.

Pulaha, Pulastya, Atri, Kratu, Vasistha, Marich, Anuradha, Arundhati, Rohini, Visakha and Vasundhara hostels of the university were declared the containment zone. The adjacent areas of Pulaha hostel was declared buffer zone.

Besides, the examination scheduled to be held on March 1 at VSSUT were psotponed till further order.
