Bhubaneswar: In the wake of a sudden surge in the Covid-19 cases in some parts of the country like Maharashtra and Kerala, the Commissionerate Police has decided to step up surveillance for the violators of Covid-19 protocols in the State Capital.
“The Covid-19 norms including use of face mask and social distancing will be enforced strictly in Bhubaneswar. People will not be allowed to congregate at one place in any market places in the city. A special enforcement team of the police will keep a strict vigil on violators. Anyone who breached the norms will be taken to task,” said DCP Umashankar Dash.
State Health Department has also cautioned people to follow the Covid-19 protocols strictly to avoid any possible lockdown-like situation in the State.
CBK Mohanty, Director DMET said that lockdown like situation can’t be ruled out if people don’t adhere to the protocols.
“Further lockdown can’t be ruled out in the State even as the present situation doesn’t indicate such restrictions for the time being. Local administrations have been empowered to impose restrictions when/where required,” Mohanty said.
He further pointed out that the present situation in Odisha is not like what is happening in Maharashtra or Kerala.
“As of now there is no possibility of lockdown in Odisha as the situation is under control. But everybody needs to follow appropriate COVID behaviour. If situation warrants lockdown and other restrictions will be clamped,” Mohanty said.
Every possible precaution is being taken to contain further outbreak of the virus, he added.
Apprehending a possible second wave of Covid-19 in the State, additional chief secretary (Health) PK Mohapatra on Friday had written to Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and Police Commissioner directing them to ensure strict enforcement of COVID behaviour in their respective jurisdictions to avoid the possible return of the virus.
