Covid-19 cases on the decline, but surge in death rate in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The daily Covid-19 cases has been dipping in Odisha as the State witnessed 3,405 new cases on Tuesday. With this, the positive tally in the State climbed to 8,59,526, the State I&PR Department informed on Tuesday.

Despite the fall in the new cases, the fatalities due to Covid-19 continue to surge in the State. At least 42 patients undergoing treatment for Covid-19 have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 3,388, data shared by the Health Department said.

A total of 1,942 cases were reported from quarantine centres, while the remaining 1,463 were local transmission cases detected on Tuesday.

Khurda district with 500 fresh infections in the last 24 hours has the maximum cases among all districts followed by Jajpur (391), Balasore (296), Cuttack (230), Mayurbhanj (187), Angul (183), Bhadrak (179), Puri (141) and Jagatsinghpur (129).

Districts which recorded below 100 cases are Nayagarh (97), Keonjhar (89), Nabarangpur (83), Kendrapara (73), Bargarh (66), Koraput (63), Boudh (59), Gajapati (58), Kandhamal (55), Kalahandi (54), Sundargarh (48), Sambalpur (38), Ganjam (36), Nuapada (28), Sonepur (25), Deogarh (23), Bolangir (18) and Jharsuguda (9).

The active cases in the State now stood at 51,104 while 8,04,981 patients have been cured or recovered.

The State has so far tested a total of 1, 27, 20,932 samples including 68,535 on Monday.
