CMC to convert Barabati, Nehru stadiums into Covid Care Centres

Cuttack: In view of the worsening situation in silver city due to massive spike in COVID-19 cases, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has reportedly earmarked over 200 beds in Barabati stadium and Jawahar Lal Nehru indoor stadium that will soon be turned into makeshift Covid care facilities.
The move has been taken by the civic body anticipating a further surge in the infected tally.
On Wednesday, CMC Commissioner Ananya Das visited and assessed the preparations at the COVID Care Centers, being established at Barabati Stadium and the Nehru Indoor Stadium.
Around 75 beds have already been setup at Barabati Stadium, which is ready to accommodate asymptomatic low-risk COVID-19 positive patients, informed CMC.
The CMC Commissioner along with other officials also visited Khatbin Sahi to take stock of the sanitization and enforcement measures being followed in the area. As per sources, as many as 32 persons of Khatbin Sahi who had attended the last rites of a person tested positive for the virus, forcing the authorities to declare it as a containment zone.
If reports are anything to go by, 925 additional beds in Covid hospitals and Covid Care Centres are being established in Cuttack district for which the State government has sanctioned Rs 15 crore for Cuttack district from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
As of now, Cuttack district has reported a total of 1431 cases, 47 in the last 24 hours. As many as 34 persons have been infected with the virus in CMC area, 9 in Barang, and one each in Tigiria, Cuttack Sadar area, Salepur and Nischintakoili.
In another development, a man arrested by Barang Police and lodged at Choudwar Jail tested positive for COVID-19. Sharing further details, Cuttack DCP informed that the police station has been sanitized, while swab samples collected from all the staff of concerned PS and outpost have been sent for testing. This apart, all of them have been asked to remain in home isolation, he added.
