Choudwar jail warder tests positive for COVID
Cuttack: COVID-19 continues to spread its tentacles as a warder posted at Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack tested positive for the virus, the jail authorities said on Monday.
According to sources, the warder contracted the virus while discharging his duty at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre (AHRCC) where a prisoner was undergoing treatment.
The warder was among the four personnel who were on duty at the cancer hospital to guard the 70-year-old prisoner who was under treatment. After their return, the swab samples of the warders were collected and sent for laboratory test. Subsequently, one of the samples came out positive.
Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail, Subhakanta Mishra has intimated the Chief District Medical officer (CDMO) regarding the positive case and requested him to conduct COVID-19 tests on all the prisoners, jail staff and barrack inmates of the infected warder.
“The warder has been admitted to a COVID hospital and his roommates at the barracks have been quarantined. Their swab tests will be conducted as per guidelines,” said Mishra.
“The premise was sanitised yesterday. Authorities have visited the jail as well as the barracks and took stock of the situation. Though I have written to test all the inmates, the authorities will decide on it after conducting a thorough contact tracing,” informed Mishra.
