BMC to intensify Covid-19 vaccination for 18-44 age Group from June 8

Bhubaneswar: The ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive in Bhubaneswar, particularly for people in the age group of 18 to 44 years, will be intensified, informed BMC Commissioner, Sanjay Kumar Singh, on Saturday.

According to Singh, a blue print is being prepared to ensure that the beneficiaries, who have taken the first dose can take the second dose conveniently. Special arrangements will be made for the beneficiaries who are yet to take the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine, he said.

Clarifying confusions if new slots will be opened for the beneficiaries under the age group of 18-44 years for the first dose, the BMC Commissioner said that, “We are going to take up an intensified vaccination drive for the beneficiaries from Tuesday.”

Singh informed that so far 8,57, 300 doses have been administered during the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive till June 4, 2021.

Of the total, 35, 400 doses have been administered to health care workers, 48, 410 frontline workers have been administered with the first dose and 28, 853 have received their second dose.

Almost all people in the age group of 45 years ( and above) have been covered with the first dose while 1, 70, 140 doses have been administered to the beneficiaries under the age group of 18-44 years in Bhubaneswar, said Singh.

Apart from this, the BMC has also decided to take up vaccination drive for students who want to take up their higher studies abroad. The registration process for such students will start tomorrow. The BMC Commissioner further informed that daily Covid-19 cases are registering a decline in Bhubaneswar. Similarly, the pressure on ICU and other beds in hospitals is also reducing considerably.
