Atiq Ahmed crackdown: Focus on sprawling realty business in Haryana, wife Shaista who ran show

UP Police has prepared a list of Atiq Ahmed’s properties in Haryana, which the slain gangster bought to launder his unaccounted money, sources told India Today. The police are preparing to seize Atiq Ahmed’s properties as the hunt for his wife, Shaista Parveen, continues.

According to sources, Shaista was involved in the property dealings on behalf of her husband and could be instrumental in disclosing the real estate details of Atiq Ahmed. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed by three shooters on April 15 in Prayagraj. The two were being taken for medical examination by a police team.

Police have found out about some real estate ventures of Atiq Ahmed in Gurugram, including Fana Associates Private Limited, registered in Atiq’s name, Jafari State Limited, which is registered in Shasita’s name. Other companies like MJ Infra Housing, MJ Infra Land LLP and MJ Infra Housing Private Limited are registered in the name of Atiq’s brothers-in-law, Farooq and Jaki.

Apart from Atiq’s real estate empire, the police will probe his alleged link with a terrorist organisation as they suspect an flow of funds to a foreign country. A few days ago, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concluded its raids against Atiq Ahmed and his associates.

The federal probe agency recovered documents related to over 100 properties in the name of Atiq Ahmed’s close associates and firms. These assets are Atiq Ahmed’s “benami” properties. The probe agency, which conducted raids as part of an ongoing money laundering probe against Atiq Ahmed and his aides, seized documents of benami properties between 2012 and 2017 built by Atiq from Lucknow to Prayagraj.
