Air ambulance takes critically ill Abhisek to Kolkata for ECMO treatment

Bhubaneswar: With funds and prayers pouring in, critically ill Abhisek Mohapatra was finally flown to Kolkata in an air ambulance for advance ECMO treatment from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here on Wednesday.

The 28 years old was first shifted to Bhubaneswar airport from a private hospital here in a life support ambulance. A green corridor was created for his smooth transportation.

Abhisek who hails from Basudevpur of Bhadrak is critical after being infected with COVID-19 and needs advance ECMO treatment. An ECMO machine has already been fitted in his body. He was escorted by a team of doctors.

“A huge amount of money is required for the treatment of Abhisek. But, we want to start the initial treatment with the funds available with us as his condition is deteriorating. We appealed NGOs and government to help for the treatment of Abhisek,” Parthasarathi Patnaik, a friend of Abhisek said.

Many good samaritans across the country are contributing for Abhisek’s treatment. Meanwhile, Cuttack Malgodown Traders Association has come forward to help Abhisek after his news was widely covered. The traders donated Rs 50,000 for the treatment of the youth.

Prasanta Patra, joint secretary of Cuttack Malgodown Traders Association said, “We do business throughout the year and if can help a youth in this critical phase of his life, we will realize that we did something noteworthy in our life.
