Action against private hospitals for denying admission to patients: Asit Tripathy

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government on Saturday warned private hospitals across the state of strong action if they are found denying admission to patients coming from COVID-19 hotspot districts.
In a tweet, the Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy on Saturday said there are instances of some private hospitals being reluctant to admit patients from hotspot districts. Terming such act as unethical and illegal, Tripathy said strict action will be taken against the wrongdoers.
The Chief Secretary further advised people to dial 100 to inform authorities concerned about such practices by private hospitals.
“Many queries on who to inform. Please inform by dialing toll free number 100. They have been directed accordingly,” he tweeted.
It may be noted here that a patient from Berhampur in Ganjam district was rushed to Bhubaneswar after being referred by doctors of the MKCG Hospital last week as he had suffered a brain stroke. But, he was denied admission in two reputed private hospitals in Bhubaneswar because he had come from hotspot district. Later, he succumbed to death the same day.
