8,830 migrants returned to the state in 24 hours: Bagchi

Bhubaneswar: A total 8,830 people returned to the state in last 24 hours, informed state Government’s Spokesperson on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi today. Odisha Government had initiated the process to bring back stranded migrants in different states.

Bagchi said of the 8,830 returned to the state in last 24 hours,  6382 came in buses while 2409 people came in trains. And, 39 persons returned to the state through other means of transport during the period, he said adding that 4.92 lakhs more are likely to return to the state in coming days.

Citing  violation of the quarantine norms, Bagchi said due to carelessness and indiscipline by a handful people out of the 8830 returnees, rest 4.92 lakh stranded people of the state  will lose sympathy of the 4.5 crore people of Odisha. Besides, returnees who will escape quarantine centres will also put lives of their own families at risk.

He reiterated that people who wish to come back to the state will have to mandatorily follow the norms set by the state government. They have to register on COVID-19 portal before their return and undergo 14-day mandatory quarantine at temporary medical camps set up in their respective districts. Besides, buses carrying the returnees will have to adhere to permit conditions, Bagchi added.
