67 fresh COVID-19 positive cases reported today in Odisha, tally at 1336

Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Sunday reported 67 fresh cases of COVID-19 taking total count to 1336, of which 832 are active so far. According to State Health & Family Welfare Department, out of new 67 cases, 60 are in quarantine centres, 4 in home quarantine and 3 are locals.
Total number of 5388 samples were tested on Saturday of which 67 samples were found positive for novel coronavirus. The test results showed that Puri district registered highest number of 16 cases today followed by Nayagarh district (13). Ganjam and Balangir districts have 7 new corona positive cases each following sample tests conducted on May 23. Similarly, Angul district reported new 6 COVID cases, Sundargarh 4, Kalahandi 4, Khordha 3, Cuttack 2, Malkangiri 2, Jagatsinghpur 1 and Dhenkanal 1.
Nuapada district made debut in the list of COVID-hit districts with a fresh case. According to Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department, the person tested positive for COVID-19 is a Maharashtra returnee. With this, 27 districts out of 30 in Odisha have been infected with the deadly virus so far.
In Puri, 16 persons found positive for coronavirus during the test conducted yesterday, out of which 15 in quarantine centres. While 11 cases have travel history to Surat, one person had returned from Tamil Nadu and 3 are West Bengal returnees. One local case in home quarantine tested positive in the district. However, the Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department is yet to share details of the resident. The district is now placed fifth in the table with 81 positive cases of which 77 are active.
According to the Department, 13 cases came from Nayagarh district. All the cases are in quarantine centres. While 9 persons are Surat returnees 4 have returned from Andhra Pradesh. With this total number in the district increased to 45 with 44 active cases and 1 recovered cases.
Ganjam district, which tops the COVID-hit districts in Odisha, today reported 7 new cases. According to I&PR Department, out of 7, one is a Surat returnee and 6 are local cases. With this, the total number mounted to 348 with 142 active cases and 203 recovered cases. Three patients have died of the disease in the district so far.
In Balangir, all seven infected persons are male and they have travel history to other states, informed Balangir Collector Arindam Dakua today. Out of seven cases, two are the residents of Bharasuja and Ingasa Gram Panchayats (GP) under Agalpur Block, two are from Siskela GP under Saintala Block, one each from Budhipadar GP under Loisinga Block, Sindhekela GP under Bangomunda Block and Patrapali village under Muribahal Block respectively. With this, the total number of COVID cases in the district rose to 16 with 14 active cases and two recovered cases so far.
Angul district has now 25 COVID-19 cases (10 active cases and 15 recovered) with 6 new cases reported today. Of fresh cases today, one person is a Tamil Nadu returnee, 2 Maharashtra returnees, 2 Surat returnees and one is a Bus helper of Maharashtra bus. All the cases were reported from quarantine centres.
Sundargarh district 4 more positive cases of which 3 are male and 1 person is female. Out of 4, two are Maharashtra returnees, one is a Chennai returnee. They were asymptomatic when they had reached Odisha. Their samples were collected on May 22 and next day the three were found positive for COVID-19. All the positive cases are currently under quarantine in Bisra and Rourkela. With 4 more cases reported today, the tally in the district reached 37 of which 12 are active and 25 patients have recovered from the disease.
In Kalahandi, 4 new cases were reported today. While 2 are West Bengal returnees, 2 are local cases. With this, the tally in the district rose to 17 with 15 active cases.
Khordha district reported 3 fresh cases again taking the total count to 77 including 26 active cases and 48 recovered cases. Bhubaneswar reported a fresh case from a home quarantine. Remaining two cases in the district are in quarantine centres and they are Telangana returnees. The authorities did not share about the local, who was tested COVID-19 positive in Bhubaneswar.
In Cuttack, two more persons with recent travel history to Gujarat have tested corona positive today. Out of two, one is a Surat returnee and he is the resident of Dampada GP. After his arrival from Surat, he was put under quarantine for a period of 14 days. He had been sent to home after his test results came negative thrice. However, he was found positive following test conducted on him for fourth time.
The tribal-dominated Malkangiri district has two fresh cases today. All in quarantine centres and Tamil Nadu returnees, informed the I&PR Department. The total number of cases now stands at 10 with all active cases in the district.
The number of COVID positive cases rose to 31 in Jagatsinghpur district with one more case reported today. The infected person is a Gujarat returnee and lodged in a quarantine centre.
Similarly, one case has been reported from Dhenkanal district today. The person is a Surat returnee and was under quarantine. With this, the number in the district reached 3 with 2 active cases. One patient has already recovered from the disease in the district.
