3 including Bajrang Dal member held for attacking OVP chief’s house

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested three anti-socials including a member of Bajrang Dal on charges of attacking the house of Odisha Vikash Parishad chief Sushant Padhi in Laxmisagar area in Bhubaneswar.

The three arrested persons are Prakash Kalia of Dhauli area, Manoj Mohapatra of Bhimatangi area and Ashok Behera of Khurda. After a case was registered against the three persons under different sections of IPC and Sec 3 of Epidemic Act, police forwarded them to the court.

Police sources said Prakash is the sub coordinator of Bajrang Dal and Manoj is a member of the ‘Go Suraksha’ (Cow Protection unit). After submitting a memorandum to the Sub Collector yesterday, the three persons reached Sushant Padhi’s place in Sai Vihar in Bomikhal Canal Road. The three accused then hurled stones and eggs at Sushant’s house and damaged wind shield of his car.

It may be noted here that based on a writ petition filed by Sushant, the Supreme Court had on June 18 stayed the conduct of Rath Yatra in Puri. The Commissionerate of Police had deployed police personnel in front of the house of Sushant to prevent any untoward incident.

But the three hooligans confronted and clashed with the police and hurled eggs and stones at Sushant’s house.

Later, police present at the spot overpowered the three hooligans and detained them.
