108 ambulance staff detained for abducting patient, relatives in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: In a bizarre incident, staff of a ‘108’ ambulance allegedly abducted a patient and his parents in the emergency vehicle in Urban police station area in the district on Monday.
According to reports, a patient undergoing treatment at district headquarters hospital was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Parents of the patient called the ‘108’ ambulance which allegedly took them to Balasore instead of Cuttack, they alleged.
When the driver drove towards Balsore, the attendants of the patient sought to know the reason of driving in wrong route. As none of the staff came out without any reply, they started screaming through the window of the vehicle.
Sensing trouble, locals chased the vehicle and waylaid it near Charampa. They captured the driver, helper and a pharmacist who were later handed over to police.
The trio is being questioned, police sources said.
On the other hand, district head of ‘108’ Ambulance Siba Sundar Panigrahi assured action against the erring driver and helper.
Meanwhile, the patient has been shifted to Cuttack in a separate ambulance.
A complaint has been registered at Bhadrak Town police station.
